The Meteorological Office insist that Autumn starts on September 1st (typical Civil Servants everything must fit nicely into equal quarters including the seasons). Then we have the Autumnal Equinox, this year that was on the 23rd September, makes some sense as it is when the day and night are of equal length.
But for me Autumn starts on the last weekend in October. It is when we here in the UK have to put our watches and clocks back by one hour….overnight the days seem a good deal shorter and of course continue to get shorter till the Winter Solstice.
Until now our countryside has been enjoying a late summer but slowly the signs that autumn is arriving are starting to show

Aaargh….don’t talk to me of the bloated retail-fest that passes for Christmas in the 21st century

I agree with Sue. It meddles with our internal clock. And that is harmful for a lot of people.

Christmas is fine…….it’s all the hype that goes with it these days and its not just the retail bubble but the food programs then all seasonal specials with endless trailers of all the best bits, which once seen you needn’t bother watching the program.
