My outlook on the seasons has always been that the real Autumn starts when we put our clocks back at the end of October. What we needed to kick start the colour change of our native trees is a drop in temperature….and we got that drop…plus some wind and some very welcome low bright sunshine.
An ideal weekend for a walk in the woods.

The low sun and the still heavily leaved canopy casts long shadows, created a few glades as if lit by a spotlight but everywhere the old leaves on the woodland floor at their brightest, a mix of golden ruddy brown.
These woods are predominantly Beech, some Oak, a few Chestnut and the odd Lime Tree…..but what they do create on a mornings like these is that distinctive autumnal smell that blends well with that cool nip in the air.

Autumn has just begun

That looks so beautiful. The colours are amazing. We enjoy (smiley with rolling eyes here) autumnal weather with a bit of about everything. Wind, rain, some hail and clouds in all colours during the day and also blue skies and sunshine. It’s about 11º and I have taken my wintercoat out of the plastic bag, As from Wednesday I will wear it again. 😀
