Winter IS on the way…….

A Touch of Frost…..

Saturday was much colder, so cold that we had our first real frost since last winter.

Not that the frost last long, as yet the ground is still too warm. The grey start didn’t seem to hold out much hope of anything better, certainly no takers for these park benches…

But the sun was in fighting mode and soon burnt its way through the clouds. Whilst the sun did little to raise the temperature it did manage to light up the remaining autumnal colours…

The old Mill Cottages glowed in the low autumn sun, once mill workers homes now yuppie homes much sort after…

Thought you might be interested in this rather intriguing old tree…..

It is a Mulberry Tree.  As you can see it is propped up with timber supports.  Some say it is at least 600 years old.  There was once an Abbey close by, but long gone,  it is suggested that this Mulberry Tree was part of a one time orchard.  It may well be, as I know of several old Abbeys that also have venerable Mulberry trees in their grounds. Most of its leaves have now dropped and only the skeleton is now on show….when in full leaf you would be hard pressed to see the trunk.

But back to the weather.  The meteorological Winter isn’t due to December 1st not that the forecast is encouraging as it is predicted that we have a week of Arctic wind driven weather to come….and whilst writing this we have just had our first snow flurry,- not that its sticking, but its a start.

  1. I am amazed that the mulberry tree seems so fragile and rather small considering its age… I love the bare tree. It shows so much character.
