Allestree Lake….
As was predicted by those who say they know (and as hoped for by us lesser mortals) Saturday started off cold but bright and sunny with a hazy blue sky.
The Lake looked at its winters best in the apparent warmth of the early morning light. Even though it was cold the ice that had started to melt had not re-frozen over night….a welcome break for the ducks and geese who were making the most of this early sunny morning..

I could be mistaken, but are there signs of new buds at the tips of these Sycamore trees, now leisurely wafting their young branches in morning sun and breeze..

The Golf Course was open this morning, winter greens had been set up, yet there where no takers for a round on what was such a pleasant morning….. they don’t know what they are missing

Again the weather had the last laugh. Despite such an encouraging bright start, by early afternoon it had started to rain…perfect weather for Ducks (and Geese)..
As for Sunday…..the best guess (sorry forecast) from the Met Office is for a very wet and possibly stormy day…well I do have some good books to catch up on.

Rain? From a clear blue sky? Nah!

Sadly yes…by 1pm we had rain that got heavier. Eased about 6pm and since has frozen. This morning Sunday fog, very cold and damp.

Then your pictures are somewhat misleading?! 🙂
No way it would rain on days like that?!

We’re talking England here. We can have rain “appear out of the blue” at any time!

Hi, Peter,-
Yes I’m sure! Much like our West coast, However I live in the eastern Norway these days and it’s quite different!

Not misleading Svein….but maybe inspired hopes of a better day ahead, However I can assure you that in the afternoon we had a very wet and unpleasant motorway journey. 🙂

Started overhere today with blue skies and bright sunshine. Until just past 13.00 o’clock (noon, your time, David). It felt chillier.. One look out of the window and alas…. bit fat grey clouds. Not much rain though, but enough to spoil more or less my Sunday. I don’t know much about Norway, but our little country is rather similar like England. Apart from the rain. We get a wee less. TV Gardener Alan Titchmarsh told us in an episode of his nature films that the enormous amounts of rain were the cause it’s such a lush and green island. When travelling to Britain, England for me most of the times, I bring a rain coat and a brollie. Always. 😀
As for buds on trees, David…. you are right. Just look at buches and shrubs and trees… you will find buds for the spring ready to pop out more or less. Pick just one of the branch and open it carefully. This is a nice thing to do with small kids present. Like a grandson? 🙂 . Inside you will find the whole leaf in miniature and in light green still. An unborn leaf. One of the most beautiful promises of a new Spring to come… The wheel keeps turning.Next Thursday it’s YULE. Or : The winter solstice. From Friday on you can see that slowly the light comes back. It’s always a miracle when I watch the time tables to see it really happens. https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/uk/london?month=12
