Our Local Climate Bubble has Burst….

First Snows of 2018

Well it had to happen sooner or later.  In our small part of the UK we have been sitting peacefully in our own ‘weather bubble’ a bubble that has avoided all the extremes our near neighbours have been enduring. But today, Sunday, after a very cold night the Lake froze and this morning  it started to snow.  A reasonably modest covering but its damp so I guess it will not last long….

Still it makes a change and certainly adds another dimension to a familiar landscape

Outlook is for some warmer weather and heavy rain…what joy!

  1. He he, why shouldn’t you as well? We’ve got 3 times the normal amount this year.
    I think they call this ‘ a global warm-up’, but perhaps I’ve misunderstood that term . . .? 🙂

      1. Is it possible to get a few pounds of ‘Global warning’ over here, I wonder? We have still 70-90 cm of snow and it we may believe the forecasts, we’re in for a week (at least) with temperatures around 15-20 degrees below zero. Bu so far they haven’t yet arrived.

        1. Sorry…every bit of good weather we get we will do our best to hang on to. Not that our forecast is brilliant, today may be sunny but the rest of the week is wet. ☔☔💧

  2. I watched the documentary on global warming and its consequences, from National Geographic, yesterday. It seems the extreme weather also incorporates certain areas with much colder winter weather. GB is one of them. They reported of a Welsh disaster (last year or…?) when sheep got caught in heavy snow and ice, and the farmers had to dig them out. Many sheep died of course. Incredible pictures – never heard of this up here.
    Beautiful shots as usual, David.

    1. To be very honest that is nothing new….in bad winters Sheep are often buried under snowdrifts. Farmers do dig them out but not all survive, but the majority do thanks to the thick fleece on upland sheep. Interesting fact is that if buried for a long time the sheep have been known to eat their own fleece. Whilst I believe we do have real Climate Change I do question some of the facts portrayed in documentaries. Not sure that helps convince those doubters that there is a very real problem

      1. You should always question things, but facts like higher temperature will create more storms, draughts, etc. and bring on famine and wild fires and floodings…are not really questionable.

  3. Normal service: autumnlike weather? We do that too overgere. Heatrecord will be in place Wednesday when we have a stiff breeze (strong winds) and rain. I know I will be cold that day. Prefer a light frost, blue skies and sunshine. It won’t feel cold than. 🙂
It is Global Warming. We have succeed in ruining the planet. Something to be very proud off when our children en grandchildren will ask uw why we did this… I don’t think these conversations will be nice ones.

    1. Trouble is Nia our so called science experts and advisors to Government have never told consistent stories or facts, some advice has been totally counter productive. What is needed is a good dose of common sense, and an international Action Plan that starts to work now not in years to come.

  5. Snow is always pretty the first day. After that I can leave it. It has been a very unusual winter for us here – no snow yet. Last year we had record breaking snow fall and this year nothing. The forecast is for a possibility of snow the next couple of days but I don’t think it will be anything measurable.

    1. So right nice to see it come and nice to see it go. It has been a very strange two years …
Not so.much the record highs and lows but a constant shift forward in the seasons, none going to the normal pattern. That said, overall it is warmer
