The Clock is Ticking….

Time

It only seems like yesterday that we were celebrating the start of a New Year, the day before that it was Christmas…. Yet here we are 1st of February.Β  Is it just me or is time really passing at the speed of a supersonic plane.

For many February is considered as the last month of Winter.Β  For the civil service based Meteorological Office it is…but being science based they feel the need to break the year up into seasons of an equal number of months. Astrologically, Winter is with us till the Spring Equinox on the 28th March.

So far this winter it has been un-seasonally mild and our gardens and countryside tell us that.Β  So will we have an early Spring… your guess is as good as anyone’s.

What I do know is that as Winter moves towards its close, it often has a ‘sting in its tail‘ and February is often the month it chooses to Wag that tail.

Indeed snow, in middle of February, is not uncommon in our corner of the UK, here in Derbyshire, as shown here above Hathersage and on Stanage Moor.

What will February bring this year?…..Β  who knows, maybe scenes like those above.Β  The only certainty is that we will be just that little closer to Spring

1st February

  1. January certainly seems to have flown past – unusually quickly. It’s like being thrown into the new year πŸ™‚ I agree with you about February. I had been looking at archive images of Jan and Feb over the last 6 years and February did often get harsher weather than January.

      1. Yes, I’m familiar with that old saying. Would have been quite wise in the old days when we had ‘proper’ delineated seasons! These days we have all the seasons within any season; confusing!

  2. In a similar way here in Australia we get lulled into thinking the heat of summer is behind us whereas March can actually be very warm. Beautiful photos as always David!

    1. There was a time when it was claimed that as you got older time accelerated…..but even youngsters (that is over 20’s) seem to be saying the same about time. We need to slow the pace of life down πŸ™‚

    1. Being honest we have had a mild winter. We have been in a little climate bubble of our own. All around and not that many miles away the weather has bee very different. So you know what they say “The Lord Shines on the Righteous” …..so OK that is another old saying proved wrong πŸ™‚
