After the Snow…the Thaw and then what?

Foggy day a

Furlong Oak, Allestree

Yesterday the thaw had started,  so I rather optimistically posted what I hoped was an encouraging image of the spring to come.  But the day was far from encouraging….. obviously still cold, but with no wind and slight increase in temperature melting the snow we ended up with a very foggy day.

Lake in FogThe snow was melting but as always the ice on what was a solidly frozen lake will be the last to vanish.

I wonder if that will be the worst of the winter for this year….. or will it have another surprise up it sleeve?

There is of course the old country saying that says

” If March comes in like a Lion…it will go out like a Lamb”

but some also quote the reverse.

5th March

  1. Wish I could send you some of our sunshine. It was 10º yesterday and it will be 10 again today. Snow’s gone and all the merry skating has stopped yesterday when one after another went right through the ice and had to go home wet. One casualty on Saturday. Thinking he could skate on ‘one nights’ ice. He couldn’t. 58 he was. I heard the first blue tit again this morning. Good feeling.

    1. The blog pics were of yesterdays weather…we also have some sunshine but not constant. Midday and we reached 10c tonight they guess 0c. We are also very fortunate in having not just Blue Tits but Great, Coal and Long Tailed all winter, regular winter feeders 🙂

    1. You don’t have to go back that far. Only 5 years and at regular intervals before then…which only makes me wonder what all the media hype over last weeks winter weather. Bit then again spring is on the way.

  2. I thought winter weather might be at an end too. The weather man said there is more to come. Love your photos!
