Moody Monday…… Weather Change

A Stormy Day at Moonen Bay, Isle of Skye

The weather is very unpredictable today, its certainly moody…indeed rather threatening, so I thought this image from last year rather fitted the bill.

It was taken on a very stormy day on the Isle of Skye, like all highland weather it rather took us by surprise. We had been enjoying a week of warm dry sunny autumn weather, just perfect.  Then within hours the storm blew in from across the Atlantic….gales, dark clouds and rain…..though it is the force of those winds that remains strongest in the memory.

The view is from Neist Point and looking towards Waterstein Head across Moonen Bay, to the North West of Skye. It is hard to describe the force of the wind, so lets just say that I was crouched low behind the car that was rocking in the wind, trying hard to hold the camera steady.

There was a big plus point…the gale shifted the midges that had been enjoying the autumn sunshine.  The next day the calm and sunny autumn returned but not those midges.

    1. Treat your self to a visit to the North West Highlands of Scotland in mid to late summer and you will find our. Mosquito like near invisible flies of whom the female of the species bit and draw blood. Many say its the curse of NW Scotland and many avoid travelling there….but they miss a treat

      1. Ohh Aye… little dracula’s they are. And it itches!! Always wear trousers with the legs inside your socks and wear good shoes with laces. No sandals. Also wear long sleeves and a hoody when you are in Scotland when it’s midgets time. After you take precautions, do go as it’s magically beautiful there and the people are so nice. And do not forget to bring the Deet spray for yourself. Hope hotels have mosquitonets above the beds.
I was lucky sofar. But I have seen people returning from holidays. Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles all over their arms and face and they do itch. Red spots everywhere. But they keep returning to Scotland almost each year. Armed with mosquitonets, Deet spray and even thin gloves. They also cover their faces when the midgets attack. Like a beekeeper.
I was there in August. Didn’t have any trouble at all. But my friends tell me it’s May till June and July. But the season is till october I think. Don’t let me scare you. It’s worthwhile to go there. Really. 🙂
