A sunny Summers Day….

A Summers Flower Meadow

My preference is usually for a woodland walk, no matter the season or weather….but today the Wild Flower Meadows were too big a magnet to resist. The scent from the herbs as you brushed past to which you added a warm sun from a blue sky with fluffy clouds and it all seemed perfect..

Nor is our garden to be left out in the progress to summer….. everything seems to be coming on with a rush…

Hosta are just coming into flower…

Slugs that have been in hiding are now delighting in chomping their way thru the leaves. Our blue dwarf Hosta that usually are normally a month or more behind  the bigger whites, but not this season. Honeysuckle is starting to flower along with Roses and border Geraniums.  It is also the time for the Bees and insects are busy  harvesting nectar and pollen and there is a constant buzz amongst the shrubs…there are of course Spiders equally anxious to catch a meal.

With favourable weather, garden or countryside, its a grand start to summer… its also grand to be out and about

  1. With a bit of imagination you can smell the flowers and herbs in the meadows. They kept the cattle and sheep healthy. Modern meadows are barren green fields with (*English) Rye grass. Not a herb or flower in sight. Only when the farmer farms organically. I buy my dairy products from those farms. They taste better.

    1. Wild Flower meadows are far from common here…. just green (or at times all yellow – Oil Seed Rape) then golden as crops mature. But there are initiatives to restore the ‘old’ meadows 🙂

  2. Wild flower meadows are a bit few and far between these days – lucky you to have one at hand! Oh, and I happened on a tip the other day for keeping slugs at bay…something to do with boiling cloves of garlic in water, and when it cooled, spraying susceptible plants?? Ever heard of such a thing?

    1. Across Derbyshire there has ben a programme to restore meadows to flower meadows. Seems to be working. But these are local to us and are in such good condition thanks to farming stopping on these fields many years ago…they now get cut once a year after the seeds have set and just get better each year Now boiled garlic….not heard of that so worth a try. IF it works I will patent the idea 🙂
