The Old Toll House……

The Old Toll House

The Old Toll House at Darley Abbey Mill Bridge, Derby

Once an important Toll House and a responsible job for the Toll Keeper.  Today that £1 toll fee sign is more to deter drivers who use this bridge and a narrow road as a cut through to avoid traffic congestion.

Looking at the size of the chimney I guess the Toll Keeper used to have a cosy job.

    1. It was coal that fuelled the fire, I also guess the air would be full of cigarette or pipe smoke as that seemed to be the way of things ad of course a pot of hot water would be on hand for the compulsory mug of Tea. 🙂
