Early Morning light in Big Wood, Allestree, Derbyshire
The morning started with a thick mist and also the first real Frost of the winter.

Not that the Frost remained for long. The February sun soon made sure the frost didn’t linger for long…nor for that matter the mist, though it did put up more of a fight. But with a gin clear blue sky the day got off to a great start, the bright spring like weather even brought out some early morning golfers…

It was Big Wood where I was heading….a destination that by all the sound of bird song was high on their itinerary, spring bird call is the next best thing to a vocal dawn chorus. The mist lingered for awhile longer under the trees. The sun is still very low in height but gradually it is getting higher as each day passes, creating a shift in shadows and depth to the woods, and the drying winter leaves create a golden carpet that we normally associate with autumn….

Down on the Lake a partial thin layer of ice had formed, that didn’t last for long as the morning warmed up, much to the relief of the lone Swan.

Storm Ciara is heading out way. Sunday is predicted to be the worst day. We wait to see.
