Lake and Mountains… a magic mix

Late evening on the shores of Llyn Padarn, Snowdonia, Gwynedd, North Wales.

Looking up the lake towards the famous Llanberis Pass with the Snowdon massive to the right.  Doesn’t look so high from here but I can assure you its quite a hike to the top. The real name for Mount Snowdon is its Welsh name….  ‘Yr Wyddfa.

It also looks rather quiet and tranquil, not always that way as the Pass and Mountains are a magnet for climbers and tourists most of the year.  But like everywhere else under lockdown right now it will be quiet and peaceful.

    1. Also brings back many memories of when I was centuries younger and started rock climbing in the Pass. I have to tell you that on the last occasion we visited and looked at some of the climbs we tackled we did come to the conclusion that whilst it had been fun and exciting…. it all looked rather desperate!! Did we really climb that invisible crack up that Rock Face. 🙂

        1. What in some ways is frightening, is the quality level of climbing equipment compared with todays kit. No step in waist harness, just a length of thin hemp rope to twist round my waist to which the main rope was attached with a bowline knot. We used to scrounge old metal nuts from garages and thread a length of rope through to make a crack belay. Memories….some not repeatable 🙂
