Saint Oswald’s Church, Grasmere, Cumbria
Saint Oswald’s is the village Church of Grasmere, in the centre of the English Lake District. The Church has been at the heart of the village since the 14th century…. it is suggested that it was built on an even earlier religious location dating back to 642ad.
The Village church is often associated with the Lakeland Poet William Wordsworth. Wordsworth made his home here in Grasmere, at Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount. There is a Memorial Headstone in the Graveyard to Wordsworth and various Family members buried here at St. Oswald’s.
Wordsworth as a Poet, is more often than not, associated with that oft quoted Lakeland Poem about Daffodils….. ” I wandered Lonely as a Cloud“… A reflection of Spring in the Lakes.
Wordsworth was a prolific Poet and Writer, but his words are not often associated with Christmas. As it is Christmas I thought it would be timely to share this Seasonal Poem.
