Torshavn, Faroe Islands
Rain has been the signature for most of our December and January days. The rains did remind we of a day a couple of years ago.
It was mid June when we arrived for a brief stop in the Faroe Islands….. and after days of wall to wall sunshine we were greeted by heavy rain.
There were a few spells when the rains eased. Despite the damp the Torshavn still glowed.
Despite having a full day of exploring , our very friendly local tour guide had picked the key highlights of the main Island… and even allowing for the weather, we met very few locals. Even walking round the City of Torshavn, the Capital of the Faroes, we met very few people.
I guess what illustrates this best is our visit to Tinganes, this old village acts as a tourist experience and is located harbourside in Torshavn. Wooden houses, warehouses, many grass roofed, possible once the commercial centre…. this day it was like a ghost town, our exclusive domain.
The rain did rather ‘dampen’ our experience but it didn’t dampen our desire to return. Our Guide packed a great deal into the day….but we know there was lots more to see and much more time needed. So with luck, we may, one day get back…. and who knows we may even meet more of the locals.
Please Remember ….
Stay Safe …. Be Kind…. Look After Each Other
