Not What I Expected……. @ Granada

You could well be mistaken into thinking that this is a City Office block.  OK, rather more ornate than most, but still that familiar functional look.

The light rather tells you that this is Spain, it is and in fact at The Alhambra Palace, Granada. 

Alhambra is one of those destinations that are a must see on any bucket list.  It is of course really a city of many different Palaces of which this is one…. one that is very different to its neighbours.  It also holds a surprise.

This is the Palacio de Carlos V.  Fabulous detailed stone work with rather grand entrances…

 

But behind those high stylish walls is the surprise that awaits you…

A tiered courtyard that is perhaps more reminiscent of Greek and Roman origins.

We were not the only visitors taken by surprise, it was not the Moorish style we were expecting, but equally as breath-taking. 

We had rather expected to see Palaces of Red Clay, with dark walkways as sheltered from the Spanish sun and of course cooling water rills and fountains.  

Nor where we disappointed
