The Screes…….

Cumbria-9-12-_545

The dark deep waters of Wast Water in Wasdale, Cumbria.

Surrounded by England’s highest mountains, Wasdale is indeed a spectacular Cumbrian location….. if you get the chance, it is a place to visit.

For me it is “The Screes” that run down from the top of ILLgill, to the very edge of Wast Water, that has the  most memorable impact for me.  ILLgill is not the highest of the surrounded peaks, but the shear weather beaten slopes, slopes that are for ever shifting, with a starkly dramatic look all of its own is the view for me. Not a great place to scramble, so perhaps its that inaccessibility that give it an added attraction.

Again, wherever you are….

    1. I guess I love Wasdale because despite the attraction to climbers it still remains one of the quieter Lakeland valleys. You can get that feeling of remoteness that a wild place deserves 🙂

  1. So beautiful… I dream to visit there too… and also I would like to live there too, but it is too late for us now, we are old enough, they don’t accept us now… Retired couple… Thank you dear David, dreaming and watching your beautiful posts are my happiness. Love, nia
