On the Cut…….

_DSC2372qqbb

An early morning start at Fradley Junction on the Trent and Mersey Canal, Staffordshire.

Narrowboat Kasandra is heading into the Coventry Canal……  then which way after that on this network of canals that navigate our country.

(Canals are also referred to as the ‘Cut’ – refers to the fact that they were cut out of the land, by hand, by labourers who also became known as ‘Navies’ , that to being short for navigators)

Travelling or staying at home this coming weekend, no matter….

  1. I really would not venture to steer this barge through narrow channels! He cannot be seeing all that he ought to be seeing on
    the surface?!

    1. They have been doing it for well over a century and no escapades like we have on the roads. In the days when cargo was the trade of the canal network, the narrow boats often had a tug, maybe 2, in tow. As for visibility it is surprisingly good… even if you do get a little wet when it rains. 🙂
