Levant Tin Mine at Lower Boscaswell, near St. Ives on the North Coast of Cornwall.
The mine shafts went down deep, and also out under the sea. The main building above was where a steam pump engine was housed. It was used to try and keep the mines free of water… not always with a great deal of success.
A tough life for the miners….. and if the dangers of the Tin mine were not enough, there was also the danger of Arsenic poisoning…. the tall chimney on the right horizon was at the Arsenic processing factory…. but that is another story of hard times for labourers and their families.
This Monday and every day…..
