I met a friend in the local woods… He expressed the view that he couldn’t wait for Spring to revitalise the woods…. Winter was just so miserable. Well I did agree that some winters day can be wet and very miserable, but on a sunny day like the one we were enjoying, those same woods looked rather magnificent.
Even the leaves, lost last autumn, added to the glow as the low sun cut through the leafless canopy…. revealing these rather spectacular skeletons….often the older the better.

Each season brings it’s own charm… and every year there is always something different to discover.
Out and about, at work or play, home or away…. as always….
Please Remember ….
Stay Safe …. Be Kind…. Look After Each Other

That last tree is realy awesome ! It’s almost unreal, like you see it in some fantasy movies.

It does indeed look like a sci-fi creation. But in fact nature has done that over 1000 years and possibly at least another 100. It is called the ‘Old Man of Calke’ at Calke Abbey Derbyshire. We visit Calke regularly and always pay our respects to the old Man., every Spring hoping it is still thriving even in its stunted stage of life.

Left hope we can see him alive for many years to come. To be able to live for 1.000 years, he must be in a very healthy place (as we see a lot of trees die as a result of human influences…

He is in ancient Parkland and has the company of other very old Oak trees, maybe not quite as old but not far behind.
