Surprise…A Sunny Saturday

Saturday and the sun arrived… after what has seemed like weeks of damp, grey days, with no breaks in the clouds, today came as a shock… a welcome shock, and a prod to get out and to enjoy the day.

Headed to Stanton Moor a favourite destination, not too far from home, but one where you feel miles away with vast spaces to enjoy.

I started and finished the walk at the Cork Stone, onto the Trig Point  then down across open moor to the Silver Birch Woods and the Nine Ladies Stone Circle…. finally back to the Trig then the Cork Stone.

It was cold, but crisp and fresh… a contrast to the previous cold and damp days, a cold that crept into the bones.  Cold and sunny days like today are a winter bonus.

A P.S…. the eagle eyed will have spotted foot holes and iron rings on one face of the Cork Stone.

Well local legend states, that young couples would come to the stone.  The young man would climb to the top, declare his everlasting love and jump off. If he landed safe he was a keeper…. if he broke a leg or whatever, the young lady should walk away.

May be not an appropriate legend in todays PC  world…. But I like it.

Stay warm this weekend and as always…
