Cannot believe this wonderful start to Spring. Sunshine yet once more. :-). So I headed to Calke Abbey (again), I like to view the Walled Gardens regularly across the months. No matter the season they never disappoint. What I wasn’t expecting was the best display of Wisteria I have ever seen. Maybe the wet winter and no frosts has given them a boost… but big weeping blooms welcome you ….

The Ranunculi’s Theatre has also been set up for the coming summer. Plenty of sun now but later they love the shadows created by the ‘Theatre’

But the walled garden was not just a pleasure garden but a vital food source for the House. It is only 4 weeks since I was last here, and now that bare soil is bursting with new growth, The Vines has sprung into leaf… soon they will cast dark shadows over the vinery.
Tempting as it was… I resist the chance of a pause to ponder in the orchard, still some blossom but now plenty of fruit buds forming.

Glad I made an early star, but work back home waited for action… so it was goodbye till next time…. I wonder what surprises will await then.

The weekend is nearly upon us and maybe a chance to relax…. but as always…
