6WS- 6 Word Saturday Challenge….. Was this the place of Murder ?…..

Magpie Lead Mine, above Sheldon, Derbyshire

A 6 word question and a 6 word caption.  6 words for this weeks 6WS

Was this the location of a murder, well yes… but you best Google the facts.

Magpie Mine can claim fame for havening been the last remaining Lead Mine, ceasing operations in 1958.  This once very productive mine can trace its history back to 1740, though it is based upon the discovery of the Shuttlebark Vein in the 1600’s….  but some suggest it also played a significant part in the Romans exploitation of Derbyshire rich source of Lead.

Now a well preserved Schedule Monument… a great location high on the Derbyshire Peak above the Wye valley.  A peaceful and evocative landscape making it hard to visualise a once very busy industrial location.

Join in the fun with your 6WS images.
