Just a Thought or A Rather Frightening Reminder….

DOI_4086-(1)qqq

It is the 25th of September today…..   which is perhaps an apt time to mention that there are only 89 days till Christmas.

Which ever way you look at time and just how fast it vanished into infinity, Christmas will be here before you know it.

So now is the time to cheer and start making preparations… or  Loudly Groan.

(I think I am with the later)

Which ever view you share….  for now…

Flippant Friday…. Monkey & The Organ Grinder

Organ-Grinder,-Buxton

Once upon a time…long before ‘piped music’ shattered the silence of our shops.  Long before phones and ear pieces providing endless music (if that is your style)…… there was the Organ Grinder.

A regular attraction on Victorian streets, a mini hand driven organ playing, what to us was,  a rather tinny tune.

Invariably we are told The Organ Grinder also had a Monkey sat on the Organ as an added draw. A novelty for adults as well as children

Apart from the so called entertainment value, it also spawned a phrase.  A Phrase that is still used at times today, when frustration kicks in, and one needs to speak to someone in authority….

” I want to speak to the Organ Grinder NOT the Monkey”

I think we have all experienced such moments….  though I have often thought it is rather disrespectful to many monkeys.

Just a thought for a Flippant Friday.

Whatever challenges you face today…..

Twice a Day……..

Tides Out

Low Tide, Skippool Creek, Wyre Estuary, Lancashire

It one of those miracles of nature.  Twice everyday, the tide fills these creeks with water, then twice a day it empties them back into the sea. Depending on the phase of the moon the high and low water marks will reach their maximum and minimum limits….. these are known as Spring Tides (nothing to do with the seasons just the pull of gravity from the moon).

Low tide is not welcomed by sailors but very welcome for Waders, Ducks and Geese who feed on the abundant food available on the mud flats beyond the creek.  It is a world that is for ever changing at natures whim. At low tide it looks rough and ready. Then at high tide, with water lapping onto the edges of the surrounding marshes, its idyllic.

This constant changing of tides, that move to their own time clock, are different everyday which ensure that change is the only constant.

On a more flippant note, it always reminds me of an old Advertising Campaign by a major soap powder company.  They had a brand name “TIDE”……   there was a slogan used on posters, adverts and TV, it was…

”  Tides in….   Dirt’s Out “

Being a youngster at the time I also added  to myself ” Tides out and Dirt’s In “

Daft I know but just one of those slogans that sticks in the memory box.

Whatever you are thinking today……

Silent Sunday (2) …. A Bit Scary at Church this morning

_DOI8159qqq

It is the annual Village Scarecrow Weekend.  At the Church a Scarecrow Wedding is taking place.

The Groom looks rather pleased with himself whilst the Bride does look a little concerned !

As for the Minister and Verge, I think they are relieved that the service is over and certainly one guest is rather dis-interested (or perhaps thinking “rather him than me”

Just 5 of over 45 Scarecrows around the villages today.

Don’t be scared but please remember to
