A Noticeable Change….

A day of mixed weather fortunes.   A very wet morning that appeared to offer little hope for the rest of the day.  But by afternoon the sun came out to play.  It also illuminated some of the early autumn colours….. the autumnal change may well be subtle at the moment but it is happening.

There as also a noticeably different feel to the Park.  As the school term has started, there were no children of any age around…. in fact the Park, by comparison to the recent weeks,  since lockdown was eased, seemed rather strange.  Just the occasional Dog Walker enjoying the free space to roam…

Mid afternoon and the River Derwent looked quite inviting, all it needed was a rowing boat or two to complete what would be a perfect summer afternoon picture…

I guess we can call this a bonus afternoon.

But as always…..

Winds of Change…… Again

Again we wake to a blue sky.  But by the time we had coffee and breakfast the first signs of a weather front started to appear….a Mackerel sky is what we call it.  But also the wind started to blow not strong but enough to shake all the leaves and bend the branches on the Silver Birch.  The Met Office has predicted storms once again with two fronts heading across the Atlantic.

The Japanese Anemone are doing their best to hide from any incoming weather ravages.  Elsewhere the Crab Apples are staring to ripen and the Elderberries swelling but not as yet changed colour.  Hover Flies seeking another meal and Honeysuckle doing its best to produce a second wave of flowers

You could be fooled into thinking that this was to be another lovely summers day….bright sunshine and dark shadows

But a quick look up at the sky and you know that this merely a brief tease before the weather change….

On hour later the rain arrived.

It was a Bright Start…. but the day never really lived up to those early expectations.

Early Sunday morning was indeed sunny…. a day full of promise.  The morning light is definitely more autumnal  and the leaves of the trees are now a much darker hue of green (forget the grass colour – it been regularly scalped by mowers and still suffering from summers drought.)

Already the angle of the sun is lower as it travels south now able to cast a warm glow though the trees…another hour and the leaf canopy will cast dark shadows.

The day didn’t fulfil all its early promise, so feeling rather smug with myself having got out early, as early as the cockerel

Another Mixed Day. Sun, Dark Clouds, Warm then Cold…… But no Rain !

Like the Curates Egg, today has been good in parts…. and to be fare not that bad but could have been better.  Bluebells in the woods really are on their last legs now,  battling away in the ever increasing shade below the trees and struggling against the  ferns….

We have  easing regulations on Lockdown,  well in England that is.  Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are being more cautious…….  Perhaps they are wiser.

One of the Restrictions to be eased relates to  being able to play Golf!  Social Distancing measures, two players only and new Golf etiquette rules apply.

Our local Course though remains closed till the 25th. May

But no one thought to tell this little fellow.. well into the swing of things. …. Go for it Tiger!

New growth is now everywhere.  Cultivated or wild, tree or shrub, delicate or bold, just an abundance of  new life and  good things to come….

Yep, things are starting to brighten up….

Encouraging in tough times and lets not forget…
