Thoughtful Moment……

Ewe and me…

I always pondered upon what this Yorkshire Ewe was thinking.

This Art installation was at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and is the work of Henry Spencer Moore.

If I recall correctly, this piece was simply called ‘Oval with Points’.

Not sure what the Ewe envisaged, and I also wonder what you see in the Sculpture…..  I still have the impression that this is a pair of Otters in a tender moment.

Art, many say, is thought provoking…  your thoughts welcome.

Friday again….. another week vanished into history. But a weekend ahead and I hope time to relax.

As always……

Wishful Thinking……….

The Lizard Point, CORNWALL

We seem to be locked in a stream of heavy rains, high winds that escalate into a succession of storms.

So you may understand why I would love to have a warm sunny day on the coast…. sea air and sunshine with a great view would be the perfect tonic to drive away the winter blues.

The above location is Lizard Point, on the Lizard Peninsular on Cornwall’s southern coast.  Looks great in the evening sun, on a falling tide……    but I guess not the place to be with storms about.

One can wish…. Spring cannot be far away.

This weekend and indeed everyday…..

Same issue… Nothing Changes

An old sign in a Village near to us…..  it is not the original of course but one restored, replaced and repainted.

Listening yesterday to our News Reports on the homeless, just one of many over the past months, I thought of the above sign.  The language may have changed but the intentions are just the same……    move on – then we can conveniently forget you.

In 2021, we here in the UK have many more people homeless.  Some say it is there own fault….. but with wages not keeping pace with inflation, with too many folk on re-negotiated contracts, many now on so called zero hours deals, the odds are stacked against so many.  Add on a cost of housing that has made buying a house totally out of reach of the young, then Rents now so high, as being a Landlord is our current big financial industry, it is no surprise that life is tough.  Then of course we have Covid and lockdowns which just made a bad situation worse.  Access to health care has become harder for many.  Add a suicide rate that has increased, much of the deaths reported directly relate to the daily issues many can no longer manage.  It is a shameful picture.

Big announcements on policy by our PM – “We are creating a high skill, high pay economy”.  Sounds good. But no real new initiatives to solve an existing problem that is getting worse.

Thankfully we do have Charities that try to help, but funds are slim for a big task….  a task that in 2021 shouldn’t be getting bigger.

Nothing changes… apart from a problem that just gets bigger.

Lets think about everyone and now it is more important than ever to…

A Dinner Invitation……

There was a time, not to many years ago, when it was considered a great way to spend a Saturday evening.  Yep, invitations went out to friends and neighbours to join us (or them) for small get togethers.  Thought would be given to the menu and wine selected.  The table would be dressed (well maybe not quite as grand as the one above)  and hosts and guest would dress up for the occasion.  It was informal but smart and conversation flowed.

Mind you in those days, it was also considered normal for the family to eat together at the dinning table.

Life has changed.  Listening to conversations, the habit of dressing down, lap top meals with the TV watching the feast, Beer out of the bottle or can, never a glass, Prosecco the only wine and Take-Aways the real treat.

I guess that’s progress.. and I know I am getting old

Just a thought…. and here is another

Silent Sunday….. Maybe Not !

Bedruthan Steps, Cornwall

Bedruthan Steps are barely a handful of miles, as the Sea Gull flies, from where the Premier Leaders of our Global World have been meeting for the G7.  It strikes me that much is choreographed ahead.  Maybe that is as well, or maybe not.  Many of us have experienced those meetings where individual ego and rivalry mix with intractable opinion.  Often we questioned… ‘Did we achieve anything’

Not sure if the political decision making, over the World, has been clear and decisive over this past year or so. This at the very time when we did need positive leadership for these tough times.  I rather fear that delay has lead to many poor decisions being made.

Any critical comment is derided as that of hindsight.  Of course we should always reflect back on our achievements and the failures, then learn the lessons for the future.

Never the less,  good management also requires clear forward thinking, anticipating the problems, positive decision making and acting quickly to tackle the issue and other that may arise.  Expect the unexpected.

Being cynical…..  Maybe, those at the G7, would achieve more by a walk along this beach.  More perhaps than sat around a Conference Table, each Delegate trying to ensure that the right personal sound bite is reported by the hovering Media hawks.  At least on the Beach….  there would be the bonus of some real fresh air for clear thinking heads, with only the Sea Gulls to hear their elite thoughts.
