A Change…but not for the Better!

Big Wood, Allestree

All good things must come to an end (or maybe for a short pause!)… after several weeks of fabulous sunny spring weather that magically changed into summer, there has been a distinct change.  Heavy dark clouds and a temperature drop.

So this mornings walk thru the woods was very dark only the bright fresh green on new ferns broke the sombre pallet of the Pines.   On the positive side….it didn’t rain.

Footnote:-

It has now been confirmed that May was both the warmest and driest since (I think they said) 1912

4th May

  1. We expected lots of rain when we made the move to Wales last year. However, it is very dry here. We haven’t had any significant rainfall since April – and that wasn’t very much. Yesterday Wales was the hottest place in the UK. Conditions are more Mediterranean than Welsh!

    1. Yep…it has been a very odd winter and spring. Certainly here in Derbyshire we have had no real frosts, little snow and a mix of record wet and record dry months. Overall you have to say it was a mild winter. Spring has just exploded….but feeling cold this morning as temperatures have dropped to 15c 🙂

  2. Does it not change during the day, David? We started with cold mornings since a couple of days now but in the afternoon the sun burns the clouds away and shines in a clear blue sky, heating eveything up again. This whole week will be very warm again. Forecast for next week is much cooler. I do hope so… the heat isn’t very good for me, except when it comes to my osteo arthritis joints… 😀

  3. We could do with some rain. You are right about that. It’s a sad sight to see nice young leaves fall off, because the tree hasn’t enough water to hold on to them. Because of some rain it looks OK. But we also need a lot more rain. Also, of course, for the farmers.
