Early Morning at Allestree Lake
October progresses but the autumn colours are still reluctant to show. At the moment it is only the occasional none native tree that is leading the way.
The Rufus Oak is just starting to reach its dramatic colour change, the colour change that describes its colour, with a distinctive leaf size and shape very different from its cousins the English Oak’s.
I guess we have to wait for a real frost to make our woodlands glow with the oranges, reds and browns of autumn, as for the most part they are still rich and sparkling green in the early morning sun.
Fungi are now starting to appear in larger numbers, helped I think by recent rain and the still unseasonably high temperatures…
It is though a little deceiving as the morning light does shine its spotlight on the carpet of leaves across the woodland….but these are not the result of autumn, but the drought we have had this summer, causing many immature and weak leaves to dry and fall… just a small hint of the colours of autumn to come.

Morning! Thank for the spectacular photos from Spain and Lisbon. I enjoyed it a lot. Colourful and wonderful buildings. But then this one with autunm colours. Warm colours when you know that early mornings it can be rather fresh again. I can almost smell the woods. Thank you.
