Could this be the calm before the storm?
After over 14 days of dark grey damp days we woke on Sunday to some very very welcome sunshine and blue skies. As the forward forecast is for storms…even our first frosts of the winter are threatened for later in the week ahead…we opted for a walk in some glorious fresh air to blow away the remaining festive memories and over indulgances.
Refreshing it was as we headed out across open Derbyshire countryside, then thru a Country Park and finally back thru my favourite Beech woodlands.
Winter has so far been very mild, today 10c. I did say the past few weeks have been damp, but no rain. Much as we dislike rain it is now long overdue for our reservoirs. Storms are predicted to sweep across the UK later today, Monday. Not sure if it has our small corner of England in its unpredictable path so we wait to see. As for frost, now that could be a problem as many new shoots of plants, shrubs and bulbs are already heading out of the warm soil. Strange world.
As we cannot choose the weather we are given it was great to take advantage of Sundays offering…a fantastic fresh day to be out and about blowing all those cobwebs away.

I bet, We experienced something of the same over here. Last week we had plus 4 – 7 degrees for nearly a week and most of our snow here in the lowlands disappeared, but the forecast reads 8-10 inches of snow during the next couple of days!

I watched the satellite weather map predictions…. its heading your way after a brief visit to Scotland. I think we are going to miss the worst of these storms. Just dark grey days again!

Sound very much like overhere, David. The sunshine was last week. Meaning, December. Since then grey, humid, not enough rain and this kind of weather makes it feel so cold. I’d rather have just a bit of freezing weather with some sunshine and hardly any wind. Wind a plenty. More promised from the LOW over Schotland. Hurray. 😦 As for rain.. not enought still. But it’s free, according to my wise brother. Doesn’t mean I have to like it… and I don’t. Like all, this will pass too. Just hanging in there… 🙂

I recall those runs of darker days from Vancouver Island, always tough to get through but you captured the warmth and uplifting feeling you get when the skies change. Beautiful pictures as always. I always find it so interesting how there is no underbrush.
