Thimble Hall, Youlgreave, Derbyshire
Aptly named ‘Thimble Hall’ a minute cottage in the Derbyshire village of Youlgreave. This style of housing was once common from the mid 1700 thru 1800’s and was know as a ‘Two Up and Two Down’.
With the pressure on the scarcity of affordable housing here in the UK, I do wonder when we will go back to these old ideas….?!
Mind you Vagabonds are not that welcome as the sign from 1824 indicates

Great little place! As for two up, two down, some modern houses are very small!

Enchanting but I guess not enchanting to live in 🙂

I’m a bit partial to open spaces, so I’d have trouble living in a cottage like that.

So more proof that people were mean to those who were down and out. Laws to keep them away.
