It has been a race…… A race between the Ash trees and the Oak.
For well over a week now the Ash trees above have had buds that have been swelling, each day they were thicker and the signs that leaves were ready to unfold from the tight shroud that has appeared as if from no where. But still no leaves to brag about.
The Oak on the other hand has been lying dormant, the over wintering buds stubborn. Not a sign of new spring life….. but today that all changed.
The Oak buds have burst and sprouting a healthy head of special Oak coloured green leaf, a green darker that the more common bright greens associated with spring.
So why is the race so important….. well I suppose it isn’t unless you believe in the old country fable.
Oak before the Ash
you are in for a Splash
Ash before the Oak
and you in for a Soak.
So the Oak won but the Ash is not far behind
You may well doubt that there is any truth in old country folk law, but as long as you don’t take it too literally, you may well find the rhyme rings true.
Today has been another sunny spring day. The only change has been a temperature drop and lots more cloud in what has till now been clear blue skies.
Still strange to be out for a walk and hardly see another soul…
It just seems so unreal, quite eerie.
Please Remember ….
Stay Safe …. Be Kind…. Look After Each Other
