A Red Stag looking in prime condition, and for the moment, peacefully grazing the vegetation. He will also be rubbing his antlers on the branches to scent mark his territory.
I say peacefully, this time next month, if not sooner, he will be tilting his head back (like above) and sending a dramatic roar across his territory. The roar is known as Bolving, once heard never forgotten. It is the seasonal sign that the rutting season is upon us.

Next month is rutting season here for the abundance of white-tailed deer we have. It creates a lot of havoc on our automobiles as car-deer collisions increase.

What a fine sight. I happened upon a collection of short clips of the different sounds alpacas make yesterday. The rutting was described as a rusty trombone.

I find myself wondering about musical compositions that have been inspired by the bolving.

There must be some but my brain isn’t tuned into which or what. You will have to spell out your inner thoughts…. will they be classical or punk 😀
