Wells Cathedral, Somerset
They say, that our Religious forefathers created their Cathedrals to be a dominant statement of power, dominance, even a watchful eye over their communities.
There can be no doubt that Wells Cathedral does exactly that…… even today, centuries later, its intricate and tall West Front, is still a dominant feature in the community.

I visited Wells yesterday. Spent too much time in the Bishop’s Palace so only had 10 minutes to whizz through the Cathedral. I have been before, and hope to visit for a bit longer next week, but yes, it is a spectacular building and definitely dominates the city

Some 40 odd years ago wevlived at Frome. So Wells was a go to place for a Saturday afternoon outing. The shops also had lots of interest (not sure how they will have suvived) but the Cathedral, both in and out, still is fantastic. Always seems to allow a good deal of light into the nave compared to many others

It’s an extraordinary building. I’m not sure how any independent shops survive these days.
