There was a time, not to many years ago, when it was considered a great way to spend a Saturday evening. Yep, invitations went out to friends and neighbours to join us (or them) for small get togethers. Thought would be given to the menu and wine selected. The table would be dressed (well maybe not quite as grand as the one above) and hosts and guest would dress up for the occasion. It was informal but smart and conversation flowed.
Mind you in those days, it was also considered normal for the family to eat together at the dinning table.
Life has changed. Listening to conversations, the habit of dressing down, lap top meals with the TV watching the feast, Beer out of the bottle or can, never a glass, Prosecco the only wine and Take-Aways the real treat.
I guess that’s progress.. and I know I am getting old

In my life time, which is nearly as long as yours, I have had to be very adaptable…. not sure that many of our social changes have been for the best.

They were special occasions…. you met friends and talked without having to compete with a timetable or the TV. It was a time to relax and share.

I’m with you, not crazy about the casual attitude about everything and eating dinner in front of the TV? NO WAY! But wow, that photo is certainly grand.
