A Very Grand Entrance…..
The Marble Hall is the grand entrance to Holkham Hall in Norfolk. A domed roof , a flowing staircase and a row of majestic columns, the later being of pink Derbyshire Alabaster with matching panelling.
The grand piano is dwarfed by these magnificent surroundings, but perhaps gives you a clue to the size of this entrance to Holkham Hall
It is some years since I was invited to photograph the Hall, a day when no visitors were permitted, so it was both a privilege and a thrill to have free access to all areas.
Holkham Hall has welcomed visitors for many years. In more recent times those visitor numbers have been swelled by Wedding Parties. I was thrilled to walk through the Marble Hall, up the stairs and through the doors at the top into yet another grand room… so imagine the even bigger thrill for a Bride, in a flowing White Gown, her procession up those stairs, with Bridesmaids and entourage following in her wake. It would certainly make a special day even more special.
No matter how grand or humble your surrounds are today, and as always….

And a barrier to people with a handicap like a wheel chair? Or is there a hidden door and an elevator somewhere?

Holkham Hall has a 13 page access statement that covers just about everything you could think of!

Elevators were not invented in th1600’s. But yes, Holkham takes access seriously and there are other ways
