A little bit of Spring in the conservatory. Always love the bold red of Cyclamen For years, after the of flowers have faded and dropped, we tried to save the corm and revive them following year. .always without success…… that is till we discovered the secret.
One year we just moved the plants in their pots to a quiet corner of the garden with the intention of emptying and cleaning the pots ready for use elsewhere. As I said, it was a quiet corner, in the shade and perhaps sheltered from any weather extremes, so we just forgot about them. It wasn’t till the December whilst clearing the remaining autumn leaves, that I spied some rich green leaves and new shoots. I moved the pots to a more open spot then brought them indoors. The reward was a show of new rich red flowers.
Neglect is obviously the secret, for several years now, once flowering has finished, we ruthlessly evict the plants to that dark corner of the garden. and forget them. Then we wait for the little miracle to repeat itself.
Miracles do happen, but not that often, so to be on the safe side….
