Not sure how or why this woodland walk was endowed with the name ‘Beggars Walk’ ….. no matter, it is though rich in snowdrops.
We had thought that we might have missed the woodland display at its best. Fortune favoured us and we caught most of them at their best, though some blooms were starting to fall away. But with sunshine, and despite the cold it made for a great early spring walk.
We still have the treat of woodland Daffodils to come, the shoots are already gaining hight. They of course will be followed in short order by Bluebells….. we can then say Spring is here.
We have had sever storms, three in quick succession and another predicted for the end of this week. Nationally there has been much damage and woodlands perhaps the worst hit. So it was both surprising and pleasing to find that Shipley Woods had shrugged off the worst. We found only one tree has been felled.
The Snowdrops will soon vanish back into the earth to return another year. As for the tree it will be a more slow process of decay, but in the process adding more nutrients back into the ground.
It was sunny, but cold… so it was a dash back home for a warming coffee.
Nothing seems normal in these strange and worrying times, so all the more reason to….

Like you, I can’t imagine why that’s called Beggars Walk, but I’d beg to go on a lovely walk like that. 😉
