Brutal Side of Autumn…

_DSC6204

Autumn, the season of much colour in our woodlands.

But tucked away amongst the fallen golden leaves, is the occasional leaf that is reluctant to “call it a day” for this year.   At least it adds another colour to the palette to the floor of our Beech Woods….. a seasonal joy to behold.

Following a week which was punctuated with grey skies, at times heavy rains and the first of the winter winds, we woke yesterday to what I call a bonus day.

Blue sky and a sun that seemed extra blisteringly bright. It was noticeably lower in the sky creating long shadows yet making, the now lime green leaves that still proliferate on the trees, glisten creating an illusion of freshness and life, a battle they will sadly loose.

Dark within the woods but on the outer edges that autumnal glow beckon’s, acting like a tonic.

However grand this bonus day was, there can be no ignoring the fact that autumn will pass. The longer darker days of winter will soon be with us.  But it is nice to have autumnal memories of these brighter days.

Time and season wait for no one…. but as always….
