Welcome to my Garden said the Scarecrow to the Crow
The gardens in question are at Calke Abbey, Derbyshire. Calke is more of a Parkland, part of a very old Estate with associated Farms. Near the centre of the Estate near to the old Hall can be found some interesting and intriguing gardens, different from the norm and a great garden walk…. or perhaps better described, as an explore.
In principle there are two gardens, both set with high walls. The first is the more formal of the two… a mix of traditional flower bed plantings and broad well packed Herbaceous Plants. Lots of colour, though for Mid – June the formal plantings of seasonal plants seem a little behind time this year… maybe they will last longer into autumn.

You pass through an Old Orangery on the way the second garden… not a bad place for a shady rest before you continue to explore

The second garden is both a Vegetable Garden and Orchard. It has obviously had requirement to be productive, across they seasons, as it fed the House and Estate. Today it is maintained to show both the versatility and how the garden worked…. vegetables, herbs, fruits including Grapes and cut flowers. Lets explore….
I dont know how many gardeners were employed, but I guess by the Head Gardeners ‘Office’ it was well manged and tasks recorded.

Thanks for joining us and I hope you enjoyed this little exploration.
Enjoy your weekend and as always…..
