Acanthus in October
Many summer plants are now dying back, readying themselves for the winter. Yet, despite some very bad weather over the past few weeks, heavy rain and high winds, our Acanthus, at 2meters, is still standing tall and its purple / mauve flowers still packing a punch.
Acanthus, of which there are several varieties, also go by many other country names. Sea Holly, Sea Dock, and the one I like best – Bears Breeches.
Maybe those names, of tough environments and strong bears, explain why, that despite all, they still stand tall….. and probably will for a few more weeks.
Seasons move along at a pace, weather is always uncertain, but no matter what….as always….

Those bears knew how to keep their breeches!
