A Day on the Moors……

Stanton Moor the destination and a break in the weather, which lets say, being polite has been changeable.  It is usual in mid August for these moors to be clad in purple Heather, occasionally a yellow gorse bush break the through the purple…. and a waxy scent in the air.  But not this year.  Like much else both in gardens and in the countryside, it has not gone to plan. 

Today Heather poor and sparse, even the Bilberry that thrive and shelter beneath the Heather were providing a poor harvest.

 

Stanton Moor also has several stands of Silver Birch.  Sunshine breaking through the green canopy that still offered a spring green hue, often these woods sheltering Ferns and Bracken that did seem to be enjoying this year.

Stanton Moor is also the home of  the Nine Ladies Stone Circle, usually a tourist magnet in the summer, but today quiet and spiritually  peaceful.

Best part of the day was the peaceful stretching of the legs, with great views a warm sun and lots of lungful’s of real fresh air.

  4. Superb photos of a magical place David. The moor looks particularly beautiful with the heather in bloom – it reminds me so my of Rombalds moor where I live – but I suppose most moorland looks much the same 🙂
