Septembers Summers Fling…before the Storms.

It was a dull start to the morning and the forecast was for rather dire weather later, so I headed out for a walk early.  A woodland walk seemed like the best option, but when I reached Calke Abbey the sun surprisingly broke through the clouds and blue skies started to appear.  So a change of plan…. An autumn explore of the Walled Gardens seemed more appealing.

The outer garden is the pleasure garden, whilst the inner garden is the working garden,  vegetables, herbs and flowers for decoration.

Dahlias as always steel the show… though one of the gardeners did tell me they were late to fill out and flower, and not as ‘blousy’ as usual…. but still a technicolour showing….

As with the Dahlias the Pumpkins, Marrows and Gourds also seemed as if they still had some growing to reach their full size…. a little late I think

Couldn’t resist these two garden characters…..

“Where have you been all my life

As for the the Hall at Calke Abbey….  well it is getting some care and attention.  It will remain shrouded in scaffolding for at least 12 months, maybe longer… and a bill of £2.5million.

As for the weather, well it did the descent thing, it waited till I got home before unleashing several hours of thunder and torrential rain, plus just for fun, a power and internet outage…. the promise is for more to come.

No matter the weather… as always….
