Sometimes…. you don’t need to Travel far

“The Row”…   Barrow-upon-Trent, South Derbyshire

These ten Grade II listed Cottages welcome you to the old village of Barrow upon Trent.  It perhaps a mark on how well this small community takes its history and guards its future.  The Row is owned by the Parish Council and only let to folk with direct connections to the village.

The Trent is of course the mighty River Trent which borders the village… and mighty indeed, as the village is much at the peril of river floods.

Barrow upon Trent is surprisingly close, yet it has been too many years since I last explored the village… so with a bright Spring sun shinning this Easter Sunday and an invitation to visit… the situation was rectified.  Partly in my defense and that of others, there is a major road passing close acting as a bypass… doing exactly that, a bypass resulting in the village being a tranquil  haven.

So on this brief visit I refreshed some of my memories.  A village of many old houses reflecting changing styles over the years, Village School and Bethel Chapel (both now private homes) and a Church, St. Wilfred’s with Anglo Saxon connections.

Just add Blossom, a few Spring flowers and the morning was rather perfect…even  some Alpaca enjoying the sun.

Another lesson in life… Not to take what is so close to you for granted, be it people or places.  🙂

Indeed, I need to return and spend a little more time.

Exploring far and wide or more close to home…always….
