Crab Apples (Malus)
I am afraid these are not in my garden, but a bountiful crop in the offing for a neighbour. Also, being nosy, I can spy many healthy laden fruit trees in other gardens, as well as wild fruit trees in hedgerows and the countryside.
Maybe a bumper crop of Apples…. and of course Cider. Could it be the mild but wet winter, followed by warm spells in Spring and no strong winds to destroy the blossom, in turn followed by two heat waves (or is it three) have all worked there magic. Not bad for July.

Wild Blackberries seem to be having a bountifull crop this year…. the birds are loving it.

So I’m assuming these are edible? What we call crab apples are very small and green and make you get a tummy ache if you eat them, Yours look a whole lot better than that!

They make wonderful jam…some folk eat them if fully ripe without issues. …but the jam is great. Homemade of course, Jean liked to add some real ginger for an extra kick.
