Yesterday…. The last summers day of 2025, and it went out in style. Clear blue sky and a sun that still had a good deal of heat in its rays. Far too good a day to waste. On a whim and a touch of memory emerging from the depths, I headed off to Bluebell Arboretum. Located on the South Derbyshire border it is tucked away behind the village of Smisby. A peaceful location of over 2500 specimen trees.

Bluebell provided the ideal link between Summer and Autumn. Rich Summer colours (which I think had been refreshed with the recent much needed rains) and the early reds of Autumn. After what has been a rather dull and depressing week, it was a real tonic for the inner spirits.
I did mention that it was a deep memory that suddenly surfaced. It was some 25+ years since the last visit, and that was only a few years after it had first opened. Great to see how its matured and expanded its area. It looks well cared for, so will continue to mature. We often strive for somewhere new, but maybe its worth digging deep in ones memory bank.
As a footnote, I am pleased to report that today , the first day of Autumn is just as sunny and bright…. but with a distinct chill.
Enjoy the season to come, make the most of it…. and as always….
