Saturday was rather wet. Storm Hannah came and went, very luckily for our corner of the UK, she was not that badly behaved. Certainly wet, heavy at times but not torrential.
It was though, as they say, the prefect weather for Ducks
The rain was heavy enough to penetrate the new woodland canopy and flattened many of the Bluebells… but if anything it improved their scent!
But for the most part it was just a wet grey day, one of the very few we have had this Winter and Spring…. so best not complain – in any case we need the water.

Nature loves this rain – this is the second day now with rain here. We need it badly, especially down south where I live. The water supplies are low.

I am not sure we are taking a possible water shortage seriously enough here. December and major reservoirs were near empty. Since then we have precious little rain. The ground is hard and any rain just runs off. Maybe we will be making up for mild winter and early spring and the lack of rain this summer ? Like it or not we do need more rain.

After last summer’s drought, the farmers – and all of us anyway – are very worried. We have had several big wild fires this month. Something we never had before.

Wild Fires (and some caused by BBQ use) have occurred in February!!! and again this month on the moors. One has to wonder where we are heading

Wondering we are.

By the way, here several food chains have abandoned the casual BBQ grills.

Makes a good deal of sense. But you still cannot legislate for stupidity

Yep…isn’t wasn’t worth the hype for us (though some friends on the Welsh coast got some damage). Since they started naming each storm I am sure there intensity has lessened.

The accompanying rain was welcome but the wind was incredibly strong here in Wales; the strongest since we’ve known it here.

I have heard from friends on the North Wales coast and they report some damage…. so far this winter we have avoided the usual extremes of the weather. A for rain,,, well we do need some more.
