Dove Dale, walking on the Derbyshire side of the River Dove
Walk with care below these rocks…if you haven’t spotted it yet watch out for the Lion.
The River Dove, immortalised by Isaak Walton in his book the Complete Angler, a trout river still a magnet for Fly Fisherfolk. Runs south to join the River Trent, its head waters in the Derbyshire Peak District. Here is runs through a steep sided Limestone Dale and is the boundary between Staffordshire and Derbyshire.
As for the Limestone Cliff above, well you have guessed right….. it is called Lion Rock.

Would love to visit that spot–and that river! BTW, if I may editorialize, Walton’s book was “The Compleat Angler.”
