Millstone, Hathersage Moors, Derbyshire
January’s weather can be unpredictable. Up on the moors the weather is also unpredictable. It can change in the blink of an eye….one minute sunshine the next a flurry of snow, then back to sunshine….of course the constant was that it was cold. The picture above was not this January, covid has other ideas for 2021, but still a reminder of better times.
Bright as that January day was, I have to admit that January is not my favourite month by a longway.
It isn’t the vagaries of the weather, though at times that can be a challenge, but it has more to do with the light. It not just that daylight hours are shorter, though each one that passes is just a tad longer than the previous day. Once New Years Day is just another memory, the colour of the light changes. Its colder, harsher even when the sun does put in an appearance. Then when the weather isn’t as favourable, it just adds to the bleak aspect for the winter month on January.
Come February, we so often get those first signs of spring appearing, but the light also becomes just a little richer…. even though the days remain cold the sun adds just a little glow. Then we can say that we are on the way to Spring
Till then ……
Please Remember ….

I’m not that fond of January either; it seems to drag on for a long time. Maybe it’s just the after Christmas blues, the weather, the lack of daylight, or in our area lately, the lack of sunshine.
