After our Garden Stroll… we met some Deer Friends

Red Deer Stag at Calke, Derbyshire

After our leisurely garden walk, we headed for home via the Deer Park.  The stags are at the point in the annual cycle, where their Antlers are said to be   ‘In Velvet’ …. as they regrow a new set ready for the Rut in October.

As the Rut is many months away, the heard is a mix of hinds and stags, some young stags just sprouting their first set of antlers. All rather relaxed…. Oh, how that will change come the end of Autumn.

I should explain that the Stag at the head of this blog was only some 9ft away….  I had not approached him.  There was a Deer fence between us,  I was just sat quietly watching when he slowly ambled over and sat… doing a bit of people watching… neither of us needed a long lens.

We said ‘goodbye’ and slowly walked away

Siting in the shade this weekend or doing some sunbathing… relax and
