The Nine Ladies Stone Circle, Stanton Moor, Derbyshire
Winter returned today…. but not as we know it. Cold, but no wind, frosty and a mist that did slowly rise but never cleared the horizon. But it was a bonus day as the sun shone and for once this year it actually had a hint of warmth in its ray’s, enough to quickly chase away the frost. Not a day to waste so we headed off to Stanton Moor where the Neolithic Nine Ladies Stone Circles takes pride of place.
Our walk today starts and finished at the Cork Stone, another of the moor’s landmarks. Views from the summit ‘trig point’, normally a 367-degree panorama were hindered by the lingering mist. Not that it spoilt our winter walk through birch, bracken and the remains of last year’s Heather and Billberry bushes. A nod on the way to Earl Greys Reform Tower and eventually back to the Cork Stone
Whatever your weather. and wherever you are today…. enjoy and also….
