Cley Windmill, Cley Marshes, Norfolk
I guess this could be one of the ultimate and very early recycling projects….or maybe best described as repurposing.
The Mill has had a chequered history. As I understand it and in brief summary, it goes something like this. Built arround 1790/1800 the mill stood idle for a number of years. Then it served its original purpose of Milling. Again fell into disuse. In 1921 new owners converted it in to a holiday home. History, with inheritance, weather and floods was unkind to the mill.
But potential was spotted and a total refurbishment followed by several owners. It became a Guest House, Boutique Hotel, Restaurant and Wedding venue. No doubt big investments by the various owners but a unique recycling project.
Cley Mill is not only a Grade II listed building of importance…. but also a significant Tourist landmark on this part of the Norfolk Coast
Your recycling may not be on such a grand scale…. but still very important….
As always….

Very interesting! I truly enjoy learning how some buildings are repurposed and this is a great example.
